Lithuania liberated itself from over 60 years of occupation by the USSR and joined as a full member of the EU at the 1st of May 2004. The country has a lot of nature, clean lakes, forest and even a kind of tropical beach, I stayed for many vacations in Vilnius, one of the biggest cities of Lithuania. The city and the country changed a lot since Lithuania joined the EU. The money the country received from the EU for rebuilding and renovation they renovated the complete center of Vilnius, roads have been made safer etc,etc. Cigarettes, in 2004 still 60 eurocent increased in 2009 to nearly 2 euro for a packet of 20 cigs....but the vodka you can even in this expensive year buy for 5 euro a bottle, dinners from 4 euro up to 30 euro and a hotel room from 30 euro/night. So, for most Europeans Lithuania is still a vacation destiny they can celebrate their free days and not feeling ripped off.
